Florida Republican leaders weigh in on Biden’s campaign exit announcement

Sen. Rick Scott makes stop in Kissimmee

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Florida Sen. Rick Scott stopped in Kissimmee on Monday and spoke out following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he will not seek re-election come November.

In a statement, Scott said Biden “is not capable of serving as president for the next six months and needs to resign today.”

News 6′s Ezzy Castro spoke to Scott during a Veterans event at the Museum of Military History.

“With regard to Biden, we all saw the debate. He doesn’t have the ability to govern and unfortunately, a lot of people knew that,” Scott said.

Kissimmee Mayor Olga Gonzalez also shared her strong thoughts about Biden’s decision.

“Well, what damage could he do in six months? We have to think about that is he going to help us in the 6 months,” said Gonzalez.

Florida Democrats held their own press conference through Zoom on Monday and announced their support for Vice President Kamala Harris’ Presidential Bid.

“The state of this race has changed our mission has not, beat Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris is the woman for the job,” said Nikki Fried, Florida Democratic Party Chair.
