VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A man playing soccer on a Volusia County beach was injured when he was struck by a person riding an e-bike, according to a news release.

Volusia County deputies said that Logan Knapik was driving the e-bike over the speed limit in outside the traffic lanes on the beach when he ran over the man. Knapik then left the scene of the crash, which happened in May, officials said.

According to the release, Knapik was arrested this week and faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and operating an electric bicycle in a manner likely to cause harm.

“E-bikes and other electric modes of transportation are subject to the same laws as motor vehicles on Volusia County Beaches,” the release read in part.

The victim was hospitalized, but deputies did not specify the severity of his injuries.
