PALM COAST, Fla. – The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office has tracked down a theft suspect who reportedly escaped from a hospital in Palm Coast on Saturday.
Anthony John Romine, 29, had been arrested for a felony petit theft warrant and was being held for medical clearance at the AdventHealth hospital along State Road 100 when he allegedly escaped that morning, the sheriff’s office said on social media.
In an update shared around 2 p.m., the sheriff’s office said Romine had been located and was in custody.
Romine was bitten by a K-9 named Neo while being apprehended, according to a sheriff’s office spokesperson. He was treated for the bite at an AdventHealth location before being released and taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, the spokesperson said, adding body-worn camera video of Romine’s apprehension may be released at a later date.
The search for Romine otherwise involved the use of the county’s FireFlight helicopter, according to the sheriff’s office.
“We worked until we got him. I commend our team for staying on his trail, and the community for ‘seeing something, saying something’ until this dirtbag was captured,” said Sheriff Staly.
