WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Winter Haven police are asking the public for information after a woman was fatally stabbed late Friday.

A witness told police that they saw the victim — so far described as a 26-year-old woman — arguing with an unknown male shortly before midnight in the construction area behind the old Banyan Beach Motel at 1630 6th St NW. The male then struck the victim numerous times and the woman began screaming that she had been stabbed, prompting the witness to run to the victim as the suspect ran away southbound, police said.

The witness then ran to find someone to call 911, according to a news release. First responders got there within three minutes and began life-saving measures on the woman, who would later die at the hospital, the release states.

Further details, such as a description of the suspect, were not immediately available.

Anyone with information regarding the case is urged to call Detective Moore at 863-837-9754, or Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-888-400-8477 to remain anonymous and to potentially be eligible for a cash reward.
