The awards recognized 17 categories of law enforcement across the state in the work of BUI and DUI enforcement and prevention.

The annual Deputy Larry Morrell MADD Officer the Year award, which Montiero won, had 30 nominees from across Florida. He was nominated by the University of Central Florida Police Department for his commitment to DUI enforcement.

“There is no way that this award simply belongs to me,” Montiero said. “If it wasn’t for the overwhelming support from our community and taking traffic safety so serious, I would have no platform. A huge thank you to the men and women who are out there every single day fighting the fight and I am humbled and blessed to be their voice.”

In addition to his work as Florida Highway Patrol trooper, Montiero works everyday with News 6 to keep Central Florida drivers safe on their daily commutes, both by offering traffic reports and answering viewers questions about the rules of the road.
