Over 300K people have flocked to Central Florida. Where did they come from?

The U.S. Census Bureau has released its most recent data for migration flows by county, which spans from 2016-2020.

During this time, over 350,000 people moved to Central Florida, the data shows.

Throughout the region, the top places where migrants came from were New York (No. 1) and Puerto Rico (No. 2).

According to the data, an estimated 184,000 people from other parts of Florida moved to the region, too.

In 2022 alone, over 1 million people moved to the Sunshine State — a migration trend that’s remained mostly steady over the past decade.

Researchers have attributed this rush to Florida’s excellent economic climate, balmy weather, and lack of regulatory burdens during the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, this massive boom has also played a part in raising the cost of living in Florida, including insurance rates and housing costs.

But in Central Florida, the top destinations for out-of-state migrants were as follows:

BREVARD COUNTY

An estimated 10,557 people moved to Brevard County from other areas of Florida — primarily Orange, Bay and Alachua counties.

Outside of Florida, over 21,000 people moved to the county. The top five states for migration into Brevard County were as follows:

FLAGLER COUNTY

An estimated 2,703 people moved to Flagler County from other areas of Florida — primarily Volusia, Duval and Escambia counties.

An estimated 12,102 people moved to Marion County from other areas of Florida — primarily Lake, Manatee and Broward counties.

An estimated 52,983 people moved to Orange County from other areas of Florida — primarily Seminole, Miami-Dade and Osceola counties.
