LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Lake County School District announced that it is adding another layer of security by equipping its panic-button alert system with cameras.

Officials said in a news release that this new integration between the district’s existing primary panic-button alert system and live security footage will give first responders the exact indoor or outdoor emergency location and real-time camera feeds, saving crucial minutes to keep students and staff safe.

“This partnership will further reduce response time in emergencies and ultimately save lives,” said Chris Lindenau, senior vice president of Fusus by Axon. “We are honored to collaborate on providing enhanced situational awareness to onsite and first responders and ultimately improve public safety in more places.”

All school employees will wear a panic-alert button, provided by CENTEGIX. When an alert is triggered, it will immediately notify the schools ingrained security system, activating cameras in the vicinity of the alert. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office staff will have access to the feed in seconds and be able to dispatch deputies to the threat, due to its newly created Real Time Crime Center.

This program is a result of a partnership between the district, department of public safety and two private companies. Lake County School District is the first in the nation to implement a new system through a public safety and corporate partnership, according to officials.

“This partnership will allow for real-time coordination between the district, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and both vendors,” said Joseph Mabry, director of Safety & Security for the school district. “It’s a game-changer and a critical component in our strategy to provide a safe and secure learning environment in our schools.”

The new system will be fully implemented when school starts.
