Man dies after shooting in Sanford; Orlando man arrested

Shooting happened on Barewood Lane

SANFORD, Fla. – A man who was shot earlier this month in Sanford has died, police confirmed Wednesday.

Sanford police said James Williams died as a result of his injuries.

Earlier this month, Santana Sutton, a 51-year-old Orlando man, was arrested in connection to an Aug. 11 shooting.

Sutton was arrested Aug. 12 on two counts of attempted second-degree murder, armed burglary with a battery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Sanford police said Sutton turned himself in to authorities in Winter Haven.

According to police, officers responded around 7:30 a.m. Sunday to a report of a shooting on Barewood Lane, and two people, including Williams, were taken to a hospital for treatment of apparent gunshot wounds.

According to a news release, Sutton had arrived at the apartment of his girlfriend “in the early morning hours” when a fight began outside of the home.

Police said shots were fired before Sutton fled the area.

The condition of the other victim has not been released.
