St. Cloud man takes plea deal in child porn case

James Cox found guilty of possessing, receipt of child pornography

James Cox, 80 (Seminole County Sheriff's Office)

ORLANDO, Fla. – A St. Cloud man arrested earlier this year amid a child porn investigation into him and his son took a plea deal Wednesday in federal court, records show.

James Cox, 80, was arrested via warrant in March by the U.S. Marshals Service at a home on Countryside Drive after his son Henry Cox shot and killed himself there while law enforcement closed in on them.

St. Cloud police said a tip received in November 2023 about child pornography being uploaded to the internet from an IP address associated with James Cox led to a search warrant that was executed at the home on Jan. 19. Investigators said they searched devices at the home and found images and videos depicting children inside of the home and in public restrooms.

James ultimately admitted to looking at child pornography and uploading pictures to search engines to find similar images, according to the criminal complaint against him and Henry, whom agents believed was producing the images and had reportedly denied any involvement, authorities said.

James Cox on Wednesday pleaded guilty to charges of receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography, according to court documents.

He’s set to be sentenced on Nov. 6, records show.
