‘Once a hawk, always a hawk:’ Fallen Lake County deputy honored at football game

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Fallen Lake County Master Deputy Bradley Link was honored at Lake Minneola High School Friday, the school where he received his diploma years ago.

William Roberts is the school principal.

“What you have to do is pay tribute to who they are and make sure that their memory always lives forward,” Roberts said. “There were many teachers that work with deputy said what an amazing student he is.”

One of them is Brian Katz. He had Deputy Link — whom he knew as Brad — in his senior economics class.

“Brad by himself would do anything for anybody, he was a gentleman all around,” Katz said. “You remember faces, you remember names, but some of them really touch you in certain ways. That was what Link did for us at school here.”

To open a Friday night football game the school choir sang a song in his memory.

“A lot of what you saw tonight was student-driven,” Roberts said.

Deputy Link’s wife sat on the football field for the tribute and was presented with a gift bag with sentimental items.

The school motto is: “Once a hawk, always a hawk.”

“We celebrate together as a hawk nation, and when we go through challenges and adversity, we come together stronger on the other side because of what we stand for at Lake Minneola,” Roberts said.

The school found a way to let Deputy Link’s legacy live on.

“One thing that we want to do in honor of him is a scholarship fund to recognize someone who embodies the same characteristics of Deputy Link so we always pay tribute to his memory,” Roberts said.
