Suspect arrested in shooting that injured 2 at Deltona home

Shooting happened on Houston Drive

DELTONA, Fla. – The ex-boyfriend of one of two people injured in a Deltona shooting has been arrested, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

Two people were injured in a shooting Monday morning in Deltona.

According to Volusia County deputies, the shooting happened just after 3 a.m. on Aug. 19 at a home on the 1600 block of Houston Drive.

In an update on Aug. 26, the sheriff’s office said Malik J. Mackenzie, 29, who is the ex-boyfriend of one of the victims, was arrested near Detroit after detectives identified him as the masked shooter in surveillance video from the neighborhood that captured him and his vehicle.

“Detectives tracked down that vehicle, a van in Deltona, and learned its tag was stolen on July 26. Detectives then tracked down surveillance video that captured the suspect stealing the tag,” a release said.

Deputies said the victims were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

He faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and armed burglary.
