The Ocala Police Department says five female students were involved in the fight, and the principal was injured while trying to break it up. The principal was treated at an area hospital and released.

One student was arrested for felony battery on a school official and was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice facility. The Marion County School District says the other four students were issued civil citations for disorderly conduct. They could turn into physical arrests, however, if the students don’t uphold the conditions that allowed the citations.

The Ocala Police Department issued this statement Tuesday:

We want to make it clear that we will not tolerate such behavior within our schools. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority, and we will continue to work with school officials and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office to maintain a safe learning environment for all.
