2nd arrest made in fatal shooting over headphones in Sanford

SANFORD, Fla. – A 17-year-old boy was arrested in the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man who was killed while trying to sell a pair of headphones, the Sanford Police Department says.

Police said William Smith was arrested without further incident on Tuesday.

On July 20, Sanford police say two individuals approached Brandon Leo in a parked pickup around 9:30 p.m. near a home on West 3rd Street near Pomegranate Avenue.

During an interaction, police say as Leo put his pickup in reverse and started backing out of a driveway, several gunshots were fired and the pickup then crashed into a retention pond and was later located by Sanford officers.

Leo was found dead in the partially submerged pickup, with an apparent gunshot wound, police said.

Based on the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Smith for first-degree felony murder. Smith is the second person charged in connection with the case. Police also arrested 15-year-old Dra’shawn Williams back on Aug. 21.
