As we head into Labor Day weekend, the tropics are becoming increasingly active. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring three areas for potential development:
1. Off the Coast of Africa: This system has a 20% chance of developing over the next seven days.

2. Tropical Wave Near the Lesser Antilles: Currently disorganized, this wave has a 40% chance of developing as it moves into the Caribbean. Some models suggest it could impact the Gulf of Mexico or the Yucatán Peninsula, but it’s too early to determine its effect on Florida. If it were to impact us, it wouldn’t be for another week and a half or so.
3. Trough in the Northwestern Gulf of Mexico: This already is bringing rain to coastal Texas and Louisiana. The NHC is giving it a 10% chance of further development over the next two days, and a 20% chance over the next seven days.
This is the time of year when we typically see the tropics getting busier. The peak of hurricane season is September 10.
