PORT ORANGE, Fla. – Lance Green, who recently won the election for Port Orange City Council District 4, has been accused of driving under the influence, according to court documents.
Green, who turns 60 on Sept. 10, faces charges of DUI, DUI with damage to persons or property and obstructing an officer without violence, booking records show.
He was booked early Saturday — around 2:41 a.m. — given a $2,000 bond amount and was released before 8 a.m., records show.
According to Green’s arrest affidavit, he had been driving with a passenger in a Ram pickup truck that rolled into the rear bumper of a Ford pickup around 9:40 p.m. Friday in one of State Road 421′s westbound left-turn lanes to County Road 4009.
After the other driver made contact with Green and returned to his truck to call the police, he reportedly saw Green and his passenger briefly leave the Ram and switch seats “in an effort to portray (the passenger) as the driver and not Lance,” the affidavit states. Green would further tell law enforcement that his passenger was driving the Ram during the crash, police said.
It allegedly took a police officer three tries to order Green out of the vehicle, according to the affidavit. After reportedly struggling with field sobriety tests, some of which he refused to do because of hip and back problems, Green was placed under arrest and twice declined to take a breath test, the affidavit states.
Green in August won his Florida Primary race against Joseph John Mialki III with 56% of the vote — or 5,949 votes to Mialki’s 4,759, with all voting figures mentioned in this story based on all precincts reporting — taking the District 4 seat on the Port Orange City Council.
