‘Summer’s officially over:’ Back to school for Lake Mary’s Little League champs

2 of the team’s stars are now focused on catching up in class

LAKE MARY, Fla. – After a week filled with celebrations and parades, it’s back to the classroom for the Lake Mary Little League World Series champs.

Tuesday was the first day of school for JJ Feliciano and Landon Bono at Greenwood Lakes Middle.

“Now I know the summer’s officially over and it was a great summer,” Bono said. “This is instead of waking up and having fun, it’s waking up and going to school,

The two players returned to campus to a hero’s welcome, which came after most of the other Lake Mary All-Stars went back to their schools last week.

“I feel like since we won the Little League World Series, the teachers are going to help us more,” Feliciano said. “I feel like I’m not really worried about catching up that much.”

JJ and Landon’s return also happened a few days after thousands flooded downtown Lake Mary to celebrate the Little League World Series victory.

“The parade was awesome,” JJ’s father, Daniel Feliciano said. “So many people showed up and to see the community and the support behind these boys was amazing.”

The parents of each boy said it’s been a joy to see the support from their hometown, but now it’s also time to catch up on lost schoolwork.

“That might be a little challenge in the beginning, but they’re really good at that stuff” Landon’s mother, Sarah Bono, said. “They figure out baseball and school and all the activities, so they’ll be fine.”

Both JJ and Landon said they plan to play travel baseball in the fall.
