ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Leaders welcomed the iconic Blue Man Group back to Central Florida with a groundbreaking Thursday for a new theatre at ICON Park.
Blue Man Group is making its return after ending a 14-year run at Universal Orlando Resort in 2021.
“We wanted to bring the show back to Orlando because it’s such an important city, it’s such an important market to us and, I mean, we went everywhere in this area because obviously we had Universal before we were familiar and one of the last stops we made was here at ICON Park,” said Jack Kenn, managing director for Blue Man Group, who added the shows at Universal stopped due to the impact of the pandemic.
At Thursday’s ceremony, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings recalled the group’s well-received theme park residency.
“I had a huge smile for multiple reasons. One, I was going to be part of the show, that I was told at the last minute, but also I was excited about the announcement that the Blue Man Group is going to return to our area,” Demings said. “I recall when they were here before and they have a phenomenal show — I’ve seen the show here and I’ve seen it in Las Vegas — and so for our community we have to be excited about that because that gives people another reason why they come visit and support our tourism industry.”
At the group’s new home in ICON Park, a 500-seat theater will be built to spec in order to accommodate multi-sensory performances by late 2024, according to its website.
ICON Park plans to offer Blue Man Group shows in late 2024.
