MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A family dog died Sunday afternoon when a Silver Springs home caught fire, according to Marion County Fire Rescue.
The fire happened around 12:20 p.m. in the 1200 block of NE 130th Terrace.

According to fire rescue officials, someone called 911 to report heavy smoke and a dog inside the home.
Firefighters tried to find the dog while other units battled the attic fire, but the dog was later found dead.
The residents were not home at the time of the fire.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
