According to city officials, at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, an independent contractor working on a development near South U.S. Highway 441 and Natoma Boulevard struck a water main with excavation equipment, causing a temporary disruption of water service throughout the city.

Responding crews were able to quickly isolate the damage and restore the water to nearly all customers by 11 p.m. Tuesday .

“To prevent similar incidents from causing significant disruptions in the future, we are proactively connecting this water main to other underground utilities currently being placed throughout nearby developments. This connection will act as a “fault switch” or backup system. As we move forward, we are also working to strengthen our alert system processes to expand our reach and ensure that we communicate more effectively and efficiently with all of our customers.”
