Troopers explained that a sedan was headed east on the highway, but while making a left turn onto Southwest 110th Avenue, it entered the direct path of an oncoming SUV.

As a result, the front of the sedan crashed into the left side of the SUV, causing the SUV to overturn on the side of the road, troopers added.

The SUV’s passenger — a 69-year-old Dunnellon woman — was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, the release shows. Meanwhile, the SUV driver — a 74-year-old man from Dunnellon — was later taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Neither the driver nor the passenger in the sedan were injured, investigators reported.
