According to police, officers responded to a panic alarm from the credit union around 10:30 a.m and were informed that a woman had handed a bank teller a note demanding cash. The woman claimed to have a gun and threatened to cause harm if anyone resisted her demands, police said.

The teller complied and handed the woman, later identified as James, some money, police said.

James then fled the scene but was found at the nearby Sleep Inn located at 170 Williamson Blvd., where she was taken into custody without incident, according to police.

Officers said James was cooperative and gave a full confession, and all of the stolen money was recovered.

Officers said they also found two notes written by James—one threatening the use of a gun and the other mentioning an explosive. However, James said she did not have a gun during the robbery, according to police.

”Outstanding work by our officers and the Volusia Sheriff’s Office,” Ormond Beach Police Chief Jesse Godfrey said. “The quick, coordinated response ensured the suspect’s swift apprehension and highlights our law enforcement’s commitment to keeping this city safe.”

No injuries were reported.
