MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A Marion County woman was killed early Tuesday when she crashed into a fallen tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
In a news release, troopers said the 56-year-old Salt Springs woman was headed west along County Road 318 around 2:27 a.m. The area was dark with no lighting, and a tree had fallen across the road, the FHP said.

The woman didn’t see the tree in time and crashed into it, troopers announced. She died at the scene, according to the FHP.
The passenger in her car — a 73-year-old Salt Springs woman — suffered serious injuries, the FHP crash report stated.
Afterward, the Marion County Road Department worked to clear the tree from the roadway.
