Flooded homes in DeLand prompt rescues for those stuck inside, video shows

Curfew in effect through Friday, Oct. 11

DELAND, Fla. – First responders headed to homes in DeLand on Thursday as they suffered from major flooding in the wake of Hurricane Milton, according to the city.

“DeLand police officers and firefighters worked 14 high-water rescues today as Hurricane Milton left behind major flooding in some neighborhoods,” a social media post by the city reads.

City officials released body-camera footage of these rescues, wading at times through neck-high floodwaters to collect people stuck in their homes.

Flooding was a major issue in Volusia County after Milton’s rampage, with some roads being left impassable thanks to the high water levels.

With the storm impacts continuing to be a problem for many, county officials extended a curfew for residents. The latest curfew takes effect on Thursday at 9 p.m. and runs through Friday at 5 a.m.

Any person who knowingly violates this ordinance shall, upon conviction, be subject to a fine of up to $500 and/or imprisonment in the county jail for up to 60 days.
