Orange County man killed after stepping on power line during Hurricane Milton cleanup

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A man in his 60s was killed Thursday when he stepped on a downed power line while cleaning up debris from Hurricane Milton, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was found dead around 4:50 p.m. in his yard in the 6600 block of Pine Island Place.

The sheriff’s office did not release the man’s name.

An investigation is ongoing.

The death marks one of several tied to the hurricane.

In Volusia County, a 79-year-old woman in Ormond Beach and a 54-year-old woman in Port Orange died when trees crashed into their homes, the sheriff’s office said.

Two other people in Volusia County died during the hurricane after suffering heart attacks.

Milton made landfall Wednesday night in Siesta Key before sweeping through Central Florida and into the Atlantic.
