ORLANDO, Fla. – A 35-year-old man was found guilty of murder this week in a 2021 shooting in an Orange County hotel lobby.

On June 2, 2021, Charles and Chamberlin got into a fight in the lobby of the hotel and Charles retrieved a firearm from his bag, authorities said. During the altercation, Charles shot Chamberlin four times: once in the chest and three times in the head and neck, according to officials.

A hotel surveillance camera captured the entire incident on video, and a hotel clerk who witnessed the altercation recognized the defendant and the hotel manager identified Charles as a frequent guest.

Charles left the hotel following the shooting, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested on June 9, 2024.

During the five-day trial, Charles claimed self-defense, but he was found guilty.

He will be sentenced later this year and faces a possible life sentence.

A death investigation is underway in Orange County.
