Bond denied for Florida bail bondsman accused of trading sex for bail money

Russell ‘Bruce’ Moncrief accused of human trafficking, racketeering

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando man will remain in jail for now on accusations that he used his position as a bail bondsman to force women into having sex with him in exchange for bail money.

Russell “Bruce” Moncrief went before a judge in Seminole County Wednesday on charges that he used his bail bonds business as part of a criminal enterprise. He was arrested Monday.

News 6 obtained documents with evidence from the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigations, accusing Moncrief of preying on women for more than a decade, targeting women held on prostitution or drug charges.

Detectives say they logged hundreds of phone calls where code words were often used with the inmates. They also say they have photos that show Moncrief meeting the women at area businesses, including a Brevard County business office.

Moncrief’s attorney said he was being held on a pre-trial detention order and would be moved to the Orange County Jail. By Friday, the move to Orange County had been completed.

“It is Mr. Moncrief’s position that he denies any and all of these allegations and he looks forward to proving his innocence in court,” said attorney Rose Feller.

The charges Moncrief faces include racketeering and human trafficking.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone who has been a victim of this practice is urged to contact the MBI at (407) 836-9701.
