FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – Some county officials are forming partnerships to tackle affordable housing problems.

Flagler County is known for it’s beautiful beaches and small-town feel, but the rising cost of housing is making it feel just as unaffordable as some big cities and counties.

Khalid Muneer is a longtime real estate broker with Jupiter Properties. He said they need to find a solution before they end up with a homelessness crisis.

“I’ve lived in Palm Coast for 33 years, and I have been in the real estate business for the last 28 years, so I have seen tremendous growth in Palm Coast over the years, with the three decades I had been there. And, the affordable housing situation has never been as bad as it is right now,” Muneer told News 6.

Muneer said there is a growing population, but salaries have not kept up with housing prices.

An Affordable Housing Advisory Committee has been trying to come up with solutions.

The joint committee of Flagler County and the City of Palm Coast held a public meeting to get feedback before they make any final decisions. Some of their recommendations include selling public land to developers, giving incentives to developers who build affordable housing, and speeding up construction.

The committee will continue to work on recommendations and will then present them to county commissioners in December.
