Central Florida man accused of attacking Amazon delivery driver, video shows

Dana Hilliker, 37, accused of burglary

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – An Ocala man was arrested on Monday after he reportedly jumped onto an Amazon delivery van and attacked the driver, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

In an arrest affidavit, deputies said they responded to the incident on Nov. 10 at around 4:25 p.m. along Northwest Gainesville Road.

Upon arrival, a deputy made contact with a man — Dana Hilliker, 37 — who said he was riding his motorcycle around the property with his son when an Amazon driver sped through the area, detectives said.

“(Hilliker) stated he waved his hands and yelled at him to ‘slow down,’” the affidavit reads. “However, (Hilliker) stated the van proceeded to the rear of the property to deliver a package.”

As the van came back down the easement to leave the property, Hilliker reportedly stood in the van’s way and extended his arms to get the Amazon driver to stop the vehicle, the affidavit shows.

But Hilliker told the deputy that the van instead drove into him, causing Hilliker to grab onto the driver’s side mirror and window while it was still moving to avoid being run over, deputies said.

“(Hilliker) stated the (Amazon driver) struck him multiple times in the face and arms in an attempt to remove him from the side of the vehicle,” the affidavit continues. “(Hilliker) stated he continued to hold onto the vehicle and used one of his arms to block the strikes.”

Eventually, the van came to a stop near the edge of the nearby tree line, and Hilliker jumped off and ran back to where the incident first occurred, deputies said. The van then left the property.

However, deputies added that Hilliker’s wife had taken photos of the incident, and the photos showed that Hilliker had his arms inside of the vehicle and wasn’t holding onto the mirror as he’d previously claimed.

Upon speaking with the Amazon driver, the responding deputy learned that Hilliker had grabbed onto the driver’s shirt, scratching at his arms and legs. In response, the driver punched Hilliker several times, the affidavit says.

Body-cam footage released by the sheriff’s office shows a deputy taking Hilliker into custody.

“I understand that (the driver) was speeding,” a deputy can be heard telling Hilliker. “However, this is an easement, and he has a right to be here delivering Amazon packages, so you cannot just jump out in front of the moving car to tell him to stop.”

“I was standing in the road,” Hilliker replies.

“But you can’t stand in the road to tell him to stop,” the deputy responds. “And then you also can’t jump onto his window and hold on... That is a burglary.”

Ultimately, Hilliker was arrested and faces a charge of burglary with assault or battery. He is held on bond of $10,000.
