Ocoee police make arrest in Army veteran’s shooting death

Kendrick J. Anderson, 27, faces 2nd-degree murder charge

Kendrick J. Anderson, 27 (Ocoee Police Department)

OCOEE, Fla. – About a year after Army veteran Gregory C. Reed was shot and killed in Ocoee, police say they’ve now made an arrest.

Kendrick J. Anderson, 27, was arrested Friday, Nov. 8, and faces a charge of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting, which occurred Nov. 9, 2023, according to the Ocoee Police Department.

Reed, 60, was shot multiple times at a gas station near a busy Ocoee intersection, police said last year. His daughter, Diedre Anderson, and his cousin, Tyrone Scott, joined Ocoee officers to plead to the public for information in Reed’s death in the days that followed.

“For somebody to hurt this man like they did, it is wrong. He didn’t deserve that,” Scott said. “(...) I even talked to God to ask him, could he please bring him back? And I did it several times because I miss him. We was at his mother’s birthday party on Sunday.”

Anderson, Reed’s oldest daughter, said it was devastating.

“My dad was simply minding his business, going to work, getting off, going to take care of my siblings. He was not doing anything to anybody,” Anderson said. “He loved his family, he loved his kids, he took care of his kids, he sacrificed a lot.”

The affidavit for Anderson’s arrest warrant describes detectives’ investigation of the deadly shooting, one that led from spent 9mm shell casings found at the scene to thorough review of traffic cameras in the area before police finally managed to identify Anderson after the suspect vehicle was shown to have recently had maintenance done at a dealership. Investigators caught up with the vehicle’s owner, who said that she had rented it to Anderson from Oct. 27, 2023, to Nov. 11, 2023, providing police with a lead.
