‘These threats aren’t jokes:’ 17-year-old accused of saying he would blow up Volusia school

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 17-year-boy arrested this week in Volusia County is accused of threatening to blow up his school, according to the sheriff’s office.

The boy allegedly posted on Instagram that he was going to blow up Richard Milburn Academy, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement, adding the teen told deputies that he was only joking.

“These threats aren’t jokes, and the criminal consequences are real,” the statement reads.

The 17-year-old faces a charge of making a written or electronic threat to a school, according to the sheriff’s office.
