SANFORD, Fla. – Julio Colon was on Wall Street on Sept. 11, 2001 and he said he will never forget those moments filled with confusion, commotion and panic.

However, he said after that event, he remained forever grateful toward all first responders who responded. Colon told News 6 this experience influenced him to start his food truck business out of a fire truck in October.

The duo parks at the Wash N Nosh car wash at 1751 West Airport Blvd.

“When he purchased the truck, all of us questioned his intentions, but he quickly envisioned his end product,” Alexa Colon told News 6.

The Colons said converting the fire truck included installing a stove top, generator and refrigeration.

Julio Colon owns the food truck business, called The First Responders Catering with Joseph Muniz, and duo said they hope to franchise and convert other fire trucks into food trucks.

Meanwhile, Alexa is studying to become a first responder while pursuing a nursing degree from UCF.

“He is truly a hardworking man and has never stopped striving in order to provide for his family,” Alexa Colon said. “He is a man with many ideas that to most people would be deemed unsuccessful, but he finally was able to fabricate his long thought-out vision.”
