ORLANDO, Fla. – A man was fatally shot during a vehicle burglary early Thursday in Orlando, according to police.
Officers responded around 5:18 a.m. to the Summergate Apartments off of Conroy Road, the Orlando Police Department said in a statement.
The man who died — referred to by police as a suspect — was identified Friday as Widlerson Pierre, 21.
Pierre was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The shooter — an off-duty correctional officer, according to a spokesperson for Orange County Corrections — remained at the scene, the statement reads.
An investigation is said to be ongoing. No other details were shared or confirmed at the time of this report.
