Orange City Vice Mayor Alexander Tiamson dies at 60

ORANGE CITY, Fla. – Orange City Vice Mayor Alexander Tiamson has died, the city announced Wednesday.

Tiamson, described in the city’s announcement as a dedicated and esteemed member of the Orange City Council, died on Dec. 29 at the age of 60.

First elected to the city council in 2020, Tiamson was reelected in November 2024, having been picked earlier that year in January to serve as Orange City’s vice mayor, according to the city.

Alex dedicated his life to public service at a very young age. He served 4 years in the United States Marine Corps, beginning at age 19. Upon end of his enlistment, he moved from California to Florida and began his commendable 29-year career in Law Enforcement. Alex began his service in Law Enforcement with the Pensacola Police Department, and retired from his career in Law Enforcement with the Orlando Police Department, in which he served in various capacities such as Patrol, Specialized Units, Detective, and various Task Forces.

The city’s post credits Tiamson for playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of Orange City while on the council, proving instrumental for initiatives and projects including the Betsy Ross Airfield for Women Memorial Site and Date Night in the Park, for which he reportedly provided the DJ services.

He was also chosen to serve on several local advisory boards including the Volusia County Opioid Abatement Funding Advisory Board, River to Sea Transportation Planning Organization, Executive Committee of the Transportation Planning Organization, Federal Action Strike Team and legislative committee through the Florida League of Cities, the post states.

Alex’s unwavering dedication to public service and passion for the well-being of our community, have left an indelible mark on Orange City and other local communities.

The City of Orange City extends our deepest condolences to Alex’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. We will remember and honor his contributions to our city with gratitude and respect for years to come.

A celebration of life service will be held at noon Monday, Jan. 13, at First Baptist Orlando along South John Young Parkway.
