Orange County, Fla. – If getting your finances under control is one of your goals for 2025, you’re in luck if you live or work in Orange County.

You can get free financial counselling from their new Financial Empowerment Center that opened today. The initiative is a partnership between the Orange County Government, Habitat for Humanity and partners like Wells Fargo.

Mayor Jerry Demings talked about how programs like this helped him on his journey, and he wants to ensure people here have access to financial help.

“This levels the playing field for many individuals who really need some education and managing their own finances that can help get them sometimes out of the situation that they’re in,” Mayor Demings said. “We have three centers opened today here at the Don Bridges, at our Pine Hills Community Center and our Howell Master Center.”

Senior Vice President for Community Relations at Wells Fargo Kate Wilson said it’s important for people to plan ahead to achieve their financial goals.

“Making a plan like how much do I spend every month? How much do I earn every month? How much do I need to save? What do I need to do to plan for an emergency if something comes up like that? There are lots of questions you need to figure out answers to,” Wilson said. “Coming in to a center, talking to a certified, trained counselor who can help learn about what’s going on in a person’s life, all of those things, how much they’re saving, how much they’re earning, what their financial goals are, and then putting a plan together so that they can do all the things that they need to do to support their families and themselves is necessary for success.”

Funding to support the program has come from several partners, including the Wells Fargo Foundation, as well as money from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

The Orange County Financial Empowerment Center begins today.
