Macy’s announced on Thursday that the company is closing dozens of its stores nationwide as part of a “Bold New Chapter” corporate strategy.

In a release, company officials explained that the plan aims to shut down around 150 poorly performing stores over a three-year period while investing more resources into its remaining locations through FY2026.

“Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go–forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service,” said Macy’s CEO Tony Spring.

Out of the 66 planned closures, seven of those stores can be found in the Sunshine State.

However, the only Macy’s store to shutter in Central Florida is the Altamonte Furniture store along West Town Parkway.

According to the company’s Help Center, clearance sales at closing Macy’s stores begin in January and run for around 8-12 weeks.

But for Macy’s Backstage stores and Furniture Galleries, the clearance sales are expected to kick off in February and run for around six weeks.

In addition, the return policy for customers who bought merchandise at one of the closing stores is as follows:

  • Merchandise bought on or after Jan. 13 can’t be returned or exchanged at a closing store.
    • Merchandise bought before Jan. 13 may be returned (per the company’s return policy) at a designated register through Feb. 11.
  • Merchandise bought at Free Standing Macy’s Backstage on or after Feb. 3 can’t be returned or exchanged at a closing store.
    • Merchandise bought before Feb. 3 may be returned (per the company’s return policy) at a designated register through March 4.
  • Merchandise bought at Macy’s Furniture Galleries on or after Feb. 3 can be returned at the company’s website as outlined in its return policy.

“Since the start of A Bold New Chapter strategy, investments in the pilot Macy’s stores — First 50 — have boosted sales for three consecutive quarters and contributed to record customer satisfaction scores for the Macy’s nameplate,” the company release reads. “Building on that success, Macy’s enters 2025 well-positioned to build momentum with a stronger store fleet and remains focused on bringing this enhanced customer experience to more locations nationwide and through its digital channels.”
