1 killed in crash involving dump truck in Lake County, troopers say

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – One person was killed in a head-on crash involving a dump truck in Lake County, the Florida Highway Patrol says.

The crash happened Tuesday just before 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 439 and County Road 44A in Lake County.

According to an FHP crash report, the driver of dump truck was traveling northbound on CR-439 when he encountered stopped traffic ahead. In an attempt to brake, the driver veered into the southbound lane, directly into the path of a 2019 Toyota Corolla that was traveling southbound.

The collision resulted in the front of the dump truck striking the front of the Toyota, troopers say.

The driver of the dump truck, a 28-year-old man from Leesburg, was not injured and remained at the scene. The driver of the Toyota, a 23-year-old woman from Altoona, was transported to Waterman Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, troopers say.

The crash remains under investigation.
