Around that time, a sedan was stopped at a red flashing light on Southeast 147th Street, facing west, the release shows.

However, when the sedan tried to make a left turn into the highway’s southbound lanes, an SUV heading south crashed into the vehicle, troopers explained.

Troopers added that the back of the SUV collided with a tree on the shoulder, and the tree fell on top of the vehicle. The SUV driver — a 53-year-old Summerfield man — died at the scene.

Meanwhile, the sedan driver — a 78-year-old man from Summerfield — refused transportation to the hospital, the release states.
