ORLANDO, Fla. – We all knew it’d be a bit of a chore to either get up early or stay up late to see the lunar eclipse overnight, but it’s evident some Central Floridians couldn’t miss it.
Known as the “blood moon,” light from Earth’s sunrises and sunsets was momentarily projected onto the moon — giving it a rusty red color — during a total lunar eclipse early Friday.
The Earth’s shadow began encroaching on the moon around 1 a.m., with about an hour of totality starting closer to 2:30 a.m. and the whole show over by 5 a.m.
Unlike a solar eclipse, this lunar eclipse was safe to view with the naked eye. Not only that, but we’re getting an eyeful ourselves as folks use our PinIt! feature to share pictures they took of the phenomenon.
