ORLANDO, Fla. – As severe weather rolled through Central Florida on Sunday, travelers experienced delays at Orlando International Airport during the busy Spring Break travel period.
“I’m very disappointed because no one really didn’t give us information or anything, besides ‘just hey the flights canceled. It’s weather delays, the weather problem is not on us,”' said Isaiah Burns, whose flight was cancelled due to weather.
Burns and his family will have to stay the night at the airport.
His flight back home to Memphis, along with dozens of others, was canceled after the Orlando International Airport issued a ground delay on Sunday due to severe weather.
“Now I leave out 24 hours later from the time I was supposed to leave today. All the hotels are booked right now,” he added.
These delays and cancellations come during one of the busiest spring break travel weekends, with nearly 200,000 expected to pass through the airport Sunday.
New Yorker German Martinez, another traveler whose flight was canceled due to weather shared his experience with News 6.
”I spoke with the them. The only thing they did is say they will put you on a flight either Tuesday or Wednesday same time but nothing else,” Martinez said.
Some like Martinez, who was in town for work, will have to wait multiple days before going back home to his family.
“Well. I mean they’re not happy about it,” he said. They’re expecting me to get home tonight. I do what I gotta do with them but not gonna happen till two days from now.”
Several people I spoke with said they checked on multiple flights with other airlines and some have even considered driving to their destination.
