TAVARES, Fla – We’ve all been there: opening the fridge to find just one lonely egg left. A trip to the grocery store often leads to sticker shock, especially with rising egg prices. But what if you could have your own backyard chickens, providing farm-fresh, organic eggs every day?
That’s why I visited Cozy Coop Rentals in Tavares.
“Welcome to Cozy Coop Rentals—your turnkey solution to backyard chickens!” says Bernadette Girvin, the founder.
Bernadette explains, “We rent the chickens and the coop to people like you so you can enjoy farm-fresh eggs every day.”
Bernadette is passionate about providing families with fresh food. Like many during the pandemic, she sought a way to spend more time outdoors with her family.
Living in College Park, she started with a few raised garden beds but often told her husband, Charlie, “I wish we could have our own backyard chickens!”
Careful what you wish for! Bernadette and Charlie found a five-acre farm in Tavares, complete with 11 chickens.
“I got my backyard chickens dream,” she says.
But she didn’t stop there. Bernadette thought, “More people should have access to this! The eggs are delicious, and kids love watching the chickens. It’s a whole life cycle lesson right in your backyard.”
This inspired her to create Cozy Coop Rentals.
How it works
Cozy Coop Rentals builds the coops on their farm and delivers them fully stocked with chickens. Customers enjoy farm-fresh eggs daily without the hassle.
For smaller families, there’s the Polar Egg-spress, designed for 2 to 5 hens. Bernadette describes it as “small, easy to maintain, and great for beginners.”
Need more eggs? It’s time to upgrade to Cluckingham Palace, suitable for 5 to 10 hens.
“The coops are on wheels,” Bernadette explains. “We’ll deliver the whole thing. I want this to be so easy for people.”
With egg prices soaring and bird flu causing shortages, backyard chickens are becoming a popular solution. One hen lays about 290 eggs a year, meaning four hens can produce two dozen eggs weekly.
Cozy Coop Rentals includes everything needed: a predator-proof mobile coop, chickens, feed and water containers, non-GMO chicken feed, bedding, and regular check-ups.
Bernadette believes backyard chickens can be a game-changer.
“This is the perfect time to help people experience fresh eggs and the joy of chickens. My goal? A coop in every backyard! I really think this could change how we think about food.”
Raising chickens isn’t for everyone, but there’s only one way to find out. Sometimes, you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.
If you’re curious about whether this is the right decision for you and your family, you can schedule a call with Garvin. He advises checking if your city, neighborhood, or HOA allows backyard chickens. They deliver coops up to an hour away from their farm in Tavares, and if you’re worried about who will watch the henhouse while you’re on vacation, they can arrange for extra visits.
Monthly rentals start at $99.
