SANFORD, Fla. – Some homeowners in Sanford have been wondering why they’ve had trouble watering their lawns for more than a week.

One of our News 6 viewers reached out to us and asked for answers after having his own issues with his sprinkler system. He wrote to us and said that he saw a message posted by the city online, on March 17, acknowledging issues with the reclaimed water facility near Lake Monroe.

The city has shortened watering times to 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., but our viewer said he’s tried to irrigate his lawn during that time and he hasn’t been able to get any water because the pressure isn’t strong enough.

Our News 6 team followed up with the city of Sanford this week to get an update on the ongoing operational issues.

The plant manager sent us the following statement on Thursday:

The City of Sanford is currently experiencing operational issues at its North Water Reclamation Facility. This facility produces the majority of the City’s reclaim water. We are and have been undertaking troubleshooting measures, instituting operational and corrective changes and implementing temporary restorative actions that are enabling us to intermittently provide reclaim water to the system until the issues at the Facility are resolved. In the meantime, we are currently limiting the hours of operation for our reclaim water system from 10:00 PM-4:00 AM. Please keep in mind that even during these hours, the pressure may be low in some areas throughout the City until the system is fully operational.

We also learned that there’s a simple explanation for why there’s been a lack of reclaim water available.

Our News 6 crew was told by staff at city hall that there isn’t much supply because there hasn’t been much rain. So, we need more rain in the Sanford area to alleviate any issues.

Until then, residents can reach out to the city of Sanford if they have any questions.
