WINTER PARK, Fla. – UPDATE: All SunRail trains are back on schedule after the incident.
A person was struck by a SunRail train in Winter Park and killed on Wednesday, and police are investigating.
The incident happened at around 4:05 p.m. along West Morse Boulevard, just north of the Winter Park Station.
Police say when they arrived at the site, the person was already dead. State officials also confirmed there were no injuries to the two crew members and 37 passengers on board the train.
SunRail says southbound and northbound trains are delayed about 30 minutes while the investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, the FDOT announced that a bus bridge was put in place between the AdventHealth and Maitland stations to help with passenger transport.
In addition, FDOT officials warned that train tracks are private property, and crossing at unmarked areas or walking on the tracks is both extremely dangerous and a criminal offense.
As such, the department offered the following safety tips:
- Never stop on the tracks. Stay behind the white line.
- Never go around a lowered gate.
- Trains can approach from either direction at any time. Always look for a second train.
- Avoid distractions near tracks.
- Never place objects on tracks.
- Obey all warning signs and signals.
- Use crosswalks.
