Third-party contractor hits gas line in Eustis, causing leak, evacuations

South Center Street, Key Avenue was closed

EUSTIS, Fla. – Residents in Eustis were evacuated because of a gas leak on Tuesday. That leak has since been resolved, and the evacuation order is being lifted.

The leak was in the area of Key Street and Grove Street, just east of State Road 19.

Eustis’ fire chief told News 6 that a contractor for a company installing a fiber line struck a gas line, causing the leak.

TECO confirmed to News 6 that a third-party contractor hit a natural gas pipeline using drilling equipment.

Two streets remain closed while crews repair the gas lines.

South Center Street is closed from Lemon Avenue to Fernshaw Avenue.

Key Avenue is closed from South Grove Street to South Mary Street.
