Man leaves victim in bushes to avoid golf cart DUI, police say

Suspect found covered in victim's blood

Timothy Jacob Foxworth

WILDWOOD, Fla. – A man dragged a woman who was injured when she fell off his golf cart into the bushes and left the area without calling 911 because he was afraid of getting a DUI, according to the Wildwood Police Department.

Timothy Jacob Foxworth, 36, of North Carolina, was visiting his parents in The Villages and borrowed his father's golf cart to go to a bar in Brownwood Square.

Foxworth and a 51-year-old woman left the bar together and were on the golf cart when the victim fell off the vehicle near Buena Vista Boulevard and State Road 44 around 1:45 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release.

The woman was unable to get up or stand on her own, so police say Foxworth dragged the victim into the median and laid her down near some bushes and a flower bed then left in the opposite direction without calling 911.

The woman was injured and bloody, the report said.

Five good Samaritans who saw what happened helped the victim and called 911 to report the crime. Police said those good Samaritans "greatly assisted law enforcement's response and potentially increased the victim's chances of survival."

The woman is in stable condition, but still suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Police said they found Foxworth driving the golf cart with blood smeared on his clothing. He reportedly told authorities that he left the victim in the median because he was afraid because he had been drinking.

Foxworth was charged with DUI and hit-and-run. He has since bonded out of the Sumter County Jail.
