Toll relief program underway in Florida

Program delivered $500M in substantial savings to over 1.2 million commuters in 2023

MIAMI, Fla. – In April, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis held a press conference in Miami announcing additional funding to provide toll relief for Floridians, according to News 6 partner WPLG.

“I am proud to announce another year of toll savings for Floridians. With this additional $450 million, we have secured nearly $1 billion over a two-year period to return to Florida’s commuters,” DeSantis said.

In 2023, the Toll Relief Program delivered $500 million in substantial savings to over 1.2 million commuters, equating to an approximate savings of $400 per individual, according to DeSantis’ website.

Every month, Florida drivers who pass through 35 tolls or more on any road are eligible for a half refund on their monthly toll fees until March 31, 2025.

However, there is one condition: Drivers must have an electronic toll account like SunPass or E-Pass to qualify for the rebate.

“Florida is committed to good fiscal governance, and I am committed to returning our surpluses back to the taxpayers in the form of tax breaks and toll savings.”

Commuters on toll roads across the state will be able to benefit from the new relief program which includes roads owned and operated by the Florida Department of Transportation, Florida’s Turnpike, the Greater-Miami Expressway Authority, the Central Florida Expressway Authority, Leeway and the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority.

DeSantis was joined by Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez and Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared Perdue.

According to the FDOT, customers will start to see credits on their accounts starting at the end of May.
