WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis held a news conference Tuesday morning to announce that he’s signing an executive order to officially launch a state-level investigation into the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump over the weekend.

Speaking at the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Training Division, DeSantis told reporters that the “suspect is believed to have committed state law violations.” DeSantis’ announcement comes a day after Ryan Routh was charged with federal firearms crimes.

Attorney General Ashley Moody, Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Mark Glass, Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Director Dave Kerner, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and Martin County Sheriff William Snyder joined the governor.
