TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – President-elect Donald Trump may nominate Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as the nation’s next defense secretary while his current pick, Fox News co-host Pete Hegseth, faces an increasingly strong headwind of allegations and criticism leading up to his Senate confirmation, according to CBS News.

Three sources familiar with the transition told CBS News on Tuesday that Trump was mulling the decision.

Originally reported by The Wall Street Journal, the reports come after Trump attended a memorial for fallen law enforcement officers with DeSantis on Tuesday in Florida.

Hegseth has been meeting with Senate Republicans to curry favor amid whistleblower reports and other accusations of such things as sexual assault, intoxication at work events and financial mismanagement.
