ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – This year, Orange County election officials said they're seeing a record number of early voters for the midterm election.
“We wanted to make sure our vote counts,” early voter Adrian Tyrell said. “I didn’t want to wait and not get a chance to vote."
On Sunday night, News 6 watched as her vote helped set a record in Orange County, as the number of early voters rose by the minute.
“This an all-time high for early midterm voting,” said Orange County Supervisor of Elections Bill Cowles.
Orange County election officials said the past 14 days of early voting have set a record.
“Four years ago in 2014, we did 72,000 plus, and here we are getting ready to close at 178,000, and maybe a few more,” Cowles said.
The Florida governor’s race, like many of the races this year, is going to be a close one.
Both Democratic nominee Andrew Gillum and GOP nominee Ron DeSantis have been crisscrossing the state, hoping to snag early voters, including making several stops in Central Florida. This election year has been a hard-fought campaign on both sides in a year that perhaps could break barriers and make history.
Early voting is now over. If you were unable to vote early, be sure to vote Tuesday at your designated polling location.
