Supplies gathered for Hurricane Maria victims

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Some local organizations are working to get results in the rush to get supplies to Puerto Rico.

CASA, Coordinadora de Apoyo, Solidaridad y Ayuda, a coalition of local Latino organizations, hosted a supply drive at Acacia Network - Centro Borinqueño to benefit those in Puerto Rico dealing with the aftermath of  Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

"People are literally dying out there and people aren't seeing that," Leticia Concepcion, who pulled up in her car, with "Puerto Rico SOS" written on the windows, said. "It's a lot more dire than what you're seeing. There's still help that needs to get out to the Puerto Rican community."

But the people in this part of Orange County know a thing or two about turning the worst of things into something better.

"We're trying to do our best for our beautiful island," Angel Colon, a survivor of the Pulse shooting, said. "It's beautiful of what I'm seeing today because it reminds me all the love and support we got in the tragedy on June 12."

The Pulse-affected community gathered supplies, like diapers and water, and packed them onto pallets, so trucks could transport them to Puerto Rico for those who need it.

"This is just scratching the surfaces for the needs for our island right now," volunteer Michelle Archival said.
