Republican gubernatorial candidate Ron DeSantis campaigns in Deltona

'We need to protect Florida's future'

DELTONA, Fla. – Republican gubernatorial candidate Ron DeSantis is making his final rounds across the state before next Tuesday.

The former U.S. representative made a stop at The Center in Deltona on Monday afternoon.

DeSantis spoke to a crowd of more than 100 supporters.

"My mission here for today and the rest of the campaign and into the governorship is simple: We need to protect Florida's future and for the next generation," DeSantis said.

The latest Quinnipiac poll shows DeSantis' opponent Andrew Gillum ahead, with 52 percent of likely voters. DeSantis holds 46 percent.

"We are very pleased with what we're seeing and, obviously, we typically lose early voting and then catch up on Election Day, but we have been very good this time so we just want to keep it going," DeSantis said.

DeSantis spoke about education, taxes and keeping Florida's waters clean.

"I will be able to get this done because I work productively with the Trump administration to make sure that we're getting to make sure these projects are where we need them," DeSantis said.

During his rally, he didn't shy away from taking some jabs at Gillum.

"I am happy to say that I am the only candidate of the two of us running who is not going to raise your taxes and I am also happy to say that, of the two of us running, I am the only one that can credibly say I'm not under investigation for corruption from the FBI," DeSantis said.
